Goals for Cabell County Sheriff's Office

  • Use my personal knowledge and experience of the department to improve service to the taxpayers by developing a more effective patrol division and a more accessible tax division.
  • Increase the number of officers on patrol. Due to the increased drug and related criminal activity, the sheriff’s department can no longer proactively serve our citizens with the same number of patrol officers. The sheriff’s department has the same number of officers assigned to patrol as in 1981 when I joined the department.
  • Seek a partnership with the Marshall University Forensics Department and Huntington, Barboursville, Milton, and Marshall Police Departments to open a Criminalistics Laboratory in Cabell County. This Lab would test suspected substances (drugs) for use in the prosecution of arrested persons as well as assist in the processing of crime scenes.
    • Most if not all of the misdemeanor arrests for possession of a controlled substance, (i.e. marijuana, crack, and methamphetamine) are dismissed or persons are not arrested because the State C.I.B. Lab located in Charleston does not have the resources to test all of the submitted specimens; therefore, only substances in felony cases are tested.
  • Maintain good relationships with the senior staff of the Police departments in Cabell County to improve our efforts in combating the drugs in our county which would include as well as increase the sheriff’s department participation in the Huntington Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.
  • Bring the department into the 21st century by installing computers in the patrol vehicles. These computers will expedite the processing of accidents and complaint reports as well provide the deputies with immediate criminal histories of people they encounter.
  • Maintain a Field Office in the county to reduce deputies’ response times as well as being accessible to the citizens we serve.
  • Open a full-service Tax office in the county to allow better access by the taxpayers.
  • Develop an information sharing system to be accessible to the law enforcement agencies in Cabell and the surrounding area to stop the escalating crime in our community.
